Kasaragod native urged me to join Islamic State, says Keralite in NIA custody
Kasaragod : A Keralite, who was taken into custody by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for his suspected links to Islamic State, has said that Kasaragod native Abdul Rasheed had urged him to join the terrorist organization. Basil Shihab from Alappuzha, told the NIA that Rasheed, an IS agent located in Afghanistan, had asked him to reach that country and also promised to facilitate the trip.
The NIA had taken into custody three people, including the Keralite and two people from Coimbatore, for allegedly supporting the IS on social media. They were questioned as part of NIA’s probe in connection with an IS module busted in Kannur district last year, sources in the agency said.
While Shihab is being interrogated in Kochi, the other two are being grilled in Coimbatore. The NIA had recovered from them 10 cellphones, four laptops, two hard disks, sim cards, a pen-drive, three memory cards, 77 DVDs and other items.
