Islamic State group recruits child refugees as next generation of jihadists
UK-based thinktank report finds young asylum seekers are easy prey for brainwashing and indoctrination
London : The militant jihadist Islamic State group is preying upon child refugees in order to indoctrinate and train them to fight in the name of extremist Islam, according to a report released by the UK counter extremist think-tank Quilliam, The Guardian reported on Sunday.
The report warns that child refugees are easily indoctrinated by extremist Islamist groups seeking to gather new recruits and that the estimated 88,300 unaccompanied children that have gone missing, according to Europol, are at risk of being radicalized.
IS reportedly offered some $2000 per recruit in camps in Lebanon and Jordan, according to the UK think-tank, and militants have also been known to offer food to refugees in order to indoctrinate them.
Extremist groups also distribute propaganda to young asylum seekers, attempting to sway them wage war against the west and non-believers and the report warns that youngsters are paritcularly desperate if they are separated from their parents who often remain in their countries of origin.
The report also emphasized that young refugees can be indoctrinated by online material distributed by radical Islamist groups.
